Obituary of JoAnna Verderico

JoAnna Verderico, age 66, passed away peacefully, after a 23 month courageous battle with brain cancer, on August 5, 2017.  She was born on August 18, 1950 in Akron to the late Antonino and Concetta Mincica.

JoAnna was a generous, loving, caring, and strong person who was a devoted wife and mother and doting nana.  She loved to cook and bake and her smile and aroma of her home, welcomed you as you walked in the door. Her italian recipes and traditions will live on through her family.  She also loved all Cleveland sports, especially the Cleveland Indians. She believed the best things in life were yoga, chocolate, wine and friends.  JoAnna was a devoted volunteer for many years at her parish, St. Anthony, whether it was organizing dinners or helping out at school.

She was the backbone of her late husband's accounting business, working together for over 30 years.  Without her hardwork and dedication, the business would not be as successful as it is today.

She was an inspiration and leader to her family and friends.   They would seek her attentive ear for advice. as she gave insight and lead by example.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Akron General, Cleveland Clinic, Hospice of Western Reserve and Devoted Companion for their compassionate care and support.  A special thank you to "The Belles of St. Mary's" for their friendship and bonding over the last 2 years, which made a difficult time more tolerable.  They are truly angels here on Earth.

Preceded in death by her husband, James and sister, Maria Reiter; she is survived by her daughters, Anita (Jim) Parry and Connie (Mike) Kurko; son, Vincent (Cary); grandchildren, Andrew, Carter, Katherine, Cecelia, Michael, Chase, Elianna and Jimmy.  She also leaves behind her siblings, Grace (Hurland) Parker and Theodore (Joanne) Mincica; brother-in-law, Michael Reiter; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 9, 3-8pm at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio 44304.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Thursday, August 10 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 83 Mosser Place Akron, Ohio 44310. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
