William George Stimler age 86 of Tallmadge passed away peacefully on May 2 2013. Bill was born on April 24 1927 in Akron. He attended St. Bernard grade school (1941) South High School (1945) and the University of Akron. In 1945 Bill received a letter from President Roosevelt requesting him to attend the Army Infantry induction at Camp Fanin Texas. After basic training he was transferred to the 970th Counter Intelligence Corps in Munich Germany till 1947. Returning home Bill went to work at Ohio Bell as an outside plant installation lineman then to plant assigning and was promoted to outside plant engineering. His final position for the Bell Telephone System was as an outside plant manager at the Training Center in Boston Heights. He retired in 1986 with 37 years of service. Bill had been a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Ancient Order of Acolytes at Holy Family Parish in Stow and served as a lay minister at St. Eugene's Catholic Church. Bill served as a Ward 2 Precinct committeeman in Stow and was a charter member and vice chairman of Stow Democratic Club and also served as a Ward 2 Council person from 1972-1976. Bill was a charter member of the Telephone Foreman's Club Telephone Pioneers and Knights of Columbus 2362. He was past president of the Stow Sunshiners and financial secretary of the German American Mutual Aid Society. In addition he volunteered many hours to other charitable organizations. On August 26 1950 Bill married Alfreda 'Freddie' Hesse. They raised their family in Stow and lived there for 42 years before moving to Tallmadge in 2003 Bill and Freddie celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2010. Freddie preceded him in death on July 14 2011. Bill was also preceded in death by two infant children Richard William and Christina Ann and brothers Fred and Bob. William is survived by daughters Nancy (Robert) McManus Teresa (Dennis) Spohn and Karen (Gary) Cook; sons William (Laurel) and Jeffrey (Mary); grandchildren Kate (Jeff) Brian Julie Kellie Gregory Geoffrey Joe Kyle and Zachary as well as many nephews and nieces. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday May 11 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Eugene Catholic Church at 1821 Munroe Falls Ave. Cuyahoga Falls Ohio 44221. Family will receive friends following mass.
