VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE William E. Kelly 86 died Saturday November 13 2004 at Akron General Medical Center after a long illness. Born In Akron on August 14 1918 he was a 1936 graduate of St. Vincent High School and a 1940 graduate of John Carroll University. He served in the United States Army during World War II in England France and Belgium as part of the 78th Division Quartermaster Corp Ordnance Corp and Army Intelligence. He had the unique distinction of being the first man drafted from Akron for World War II on October 29 1940. After the war he returned to Akron to The Hatterie his family's hat business which his father had operated since 1908. He continued as owner and president until retirement. His son Daniel now operates The Hatterie which is Akron's oldest retail establishment. He was a member of the Blue Coats Inc. the Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Sebastian Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his father Daniel P. Kelly mother Louise Kelly brother Daniel P. Kelly Jr. and sisters Eileen Underman and Mary Jean Fogarty. He is survived by his wife Martha with whom he would have celebrated 58 years of marriage on November 16th. He is also survived by his daughters Karen (Kenneth) Krowne of Wayland MA Patricia (Frank) Quirk and son Daniel P. (Dianne) Kelly III grandchildren Elizabeth (Timothy) Sheeler Michael Quirk and Megan Kelly all of Akron and Jeffery and Kelly Krowne of Wayland MA. His family will always remember his indomitable courage during his illness his strong faith love of family and sense of humor to the end. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday November 16 2004 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church. Friends may call at the Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. on Monday from 4-7.
