View Memorial Photo Tribute:William Curtis James died suddenly on Saturday July 5 2008 at the Ridgewood Healthcare Center where he was recuperating from a broken hip. He was born on June 26 1930 to the late Doris and Wm. Arthur James who had immigrated to Akron from England. Bill graduated from Buchtel High School in 1949. After serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 he received both a B.A and a B.S. from the University of Akron from which he subsequently earned 2 Master's degrees in education and counseling. From 1959 until his retirement in 2002 at age 72 Bill was employed by the Akron Public Schools beginning as a teacher at Fraunfelter Elementary School and continuing on to serve as a school administrator in the development of various drop-out prevention programs including the OWE and OWA vocational programs. He completed the last 20 years of his career as the purchasing agent for the district. He even had a special license plate for his green jeep: ''Low Bid 1.'' He was always a gentleman a person of integrity. He enjoyed a good story and had a knack for telling them as well. Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years Frances White James; mother and father-in-law Jeannette and Judge Harold F. White; sister-in-law Dr Susan White Braunstein (Ethan) of Arizona; brother-in-law Dr. Harold A White; and nephews Andrew Ethan and James White all of Akron. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday July 10 2008 at Hummel Funeral Home COPLEY 3475 Copley Rd 44321. Rev. Thomas Heinlein officiating.
