William E. Gmerek, age 91 of Uniontown, Ohio, has moved on to his Father's house on May 14, 2016. Born January 7, 1925 to Michael & Rita Gmerek in Morann, PA. The family came to Akron soon after. Bill was 1943 graduate of East High School, and always remained faithful to his Orientals. He served in the Army in WWII as a member of the 100th Infantry Division in France and Germany, On March 16, 1945, he participated in the storm and capture of the Citadel in the Maginot Line. He returned home to begin work at Goodyear where he remained for 43 years. While working, he attended and graduated from Kent State University in 1954 making good use of the G.I. Bill. He was a life-long member of Annunciation Church where he served as usher and Holy Name member. Bill was preceded in death by daughter, Annette Kulyk, sisters, Rita Clark, Betty Tomello, and Donna Stoltz; brother, Michael Gmerek, Jr. Bill is survived by wife Mary (Sandoli) to whom he was married 68 yrs.; daughter, Yvonne Gmerek; son-in-law, Walter Kulyk; grandson, Alex Kulyk; grand-daughter, Beth Izzo (Tim); great-grandsons,Tyler & Dylan Izzo; brother, Bernie Gmerek (Karen); sisters, Marci Bisesi (Sam), Joanie Brubach (Dave); sisters-in-law, Pat Gmerek and Helen Janicek; brother-in-law Glenn Stoltz and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange St. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 10AM at Visitation of Mary Parish, 85 Broad St. Akron. A private interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the a charity of choice or the soup kitchen at Visitation of Mary Parish.
