Wilhelmine (Wilma) Kungl passed away peacefully on June 2nd, 2024. Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Else Hofmann, and her sister, Elisabeth Schlicht. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Martin Kungl, her sister and brother, Therese Fauerbach and Joseph (Hanelore) Hofmann (both in Germany), daughters Therese (Alex) Johnson and Sabine (Dave Ninni) Parker and her beloved grandchildren, Alec and Isaak (Cheyenne) Parker, and Max, Oliver and Madalyn Johnson and her great grandchildren, Weylon and William Parker. Also, her loving brother-in-law Fritz Kungl and many nieces and nephews that she adored.
Wilma was born on September 24, 1944 in Bad Nauheim Germany, where she enjoyed a loving childhood with her siblings and several cousins. At the young age of 19, my mom met her “man in uniform” and made the very brave and courageous decision, on a leap of faith, to come to the US with the love of her life, Martin, leaving all of her family in Germany. Even though she made a new life in the US, she remained very proud of her German heritage and stayed very close to her family, visiting as much as possible.
Wilma was a very creative woman who could make the ordinary into something special. She was the best “garage sale” shopper. She liked to crochet and poured her love into every stitch making blankets and such for the people she loved. She was also the ultimate “girl scout” – she is the one who you’d want to be stranded with if ever on a deserted island – she had everything you would need in her purse.
Wilma’s greatest love was for family – her husband and her daughter’s, but the shine in her eyes, and the happiness in her heart was from her grandchildren and great grandchildren who lovingly called her “Oma”. That was her most important job and she did it proudly and with love. She kept photos of all of them in her wallet and proudly showed them off to everyone she encountered.
Wilma was everyone’s “Oma” and she loved all her “kids”. We will all miss her and know that she will always be looking down on us, guiding us and loving us.
