Wayne Dieter

Wayne Roland Dieter 86 of Copley OH passed away at home surrounded by his family on November 20 2009. A Copley resident for almost 40 years he was born on January 24 1923 in New Bedford PA. During WWII Wayne served with distinction in the 276th Coast Artillery Battalion of the US Army throughout the Pacific. After the war he returned to New Bedford earning a bachelor's degree in business from Youngstown State University. Wayne and Helen Louise Brenner were happily married for 58 years. Wayne retired from Ameritech Publishing in 1989 after nearly 30 years of service. Affectionately known as 'The Old Man' by his many friends at Ameritech Wayne was a consummate salesman who received numerous awards for outstanding achievement. He was a founding member of Lion's Clubs in both New Bedford PA and Copley OH. As a result of his dedicated service to the Lions and the community he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship. He was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 40 years and could always be counted on to pitch in wherever he was needed most. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and friends rooting for Youngstown State football and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by son & daughter-in-law Craig (Beth) of Walton KY; daughters Rebecca Dieter (Michael Hance) of Akron OH and Lesa Dieter (Mike Baker) of Cleveland Hts. OH; his grandson Scott Dieter of Walton KY; and his brothers Lynn of Youngstown OH and Dale of Erie PA. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 2008; parents George and Ida Dieter; brother Grant Dieter; and infant twin children Scott and Susan. Visitation will be Tuesday November 24 from 4 to 8 PM at the Hummel Funeral Home 3475 Copley Road Copley OH. Services will be held on Saturday November 28 at 1 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church 1250 West Exchange St. Akron OH. Wayne's children would like express their gratitude to Carol Eshelman Michael Hance Sue Layton and Linda McCarthy for the wonderful care that they provided to him over the past year. Memorials may be made to the Copley Lion's Club or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
