W. Scott Kidder

Walter "Scott" Kidder, 83, passed away on January 14, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Scott was born in Akron, Ohio, to Anne and Walter Kidder on February 19, 1939. He attended St. Vincent High School and Purdue University where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He proudly served our country as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy.

He was married to Ellen (Richard), the love of his life, for 49 years. Although Scott enjoyed a successful career at B.F. Goodrich, Uniroyal Goodrich and Michelin before he retired, his greatest accomplishment in life was being a loving husband, an amazing father, and a proud "Papa" to his 11 grandchildren.

Scott used his time and talents to help others and make a positive difference. Over the years, countless people have shared stories about how he stepped up to help with a project or repair, paint, clean, shovel snow, deliver food, run errands and, literally, save the day with his kindness. He always had a smile to share and had a wonderful way of connecting with others to make them feel important.

In his final days, when his family was gathered around, Scott used his time to bless them with heartfelt words and beautiful lessons that will never be forgotten.

A devoted Catholic, Scott was a lifetime member of St. Sebastian's Parish, where he attended grade school, later served as an usher for Sunday Mass and was part of the Knights of Columbus.

Scott was preceded in death by his wife Ellen (Richard) Kidder and his parents, Anne and Walter Kidder.

He is survived by his five children: Annemarie (Keith) Gillin, Walter (Rita) Kidder, Michael (Jennifer) Kidder, Eleanor (Norman) Graves, and Margaret (Adam) Burroughs; his 11 grandchildren Haley, Nathan, Julia, Logan, Ella, Payton, Caitlin, Cameron, Brady, Samuel and Noah; and his sister Elizabeth (Kidder) Day.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 476 Mull Ave., Akron. Calling hours will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley. PRIVATE burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
