Verla Marie Hunter, age 93, of Wooster, formerly of Akron, went Home to be with the Lord on April 25, 2015 at Smithville Western Care Center in Wooster, Ohio. Marie was born October 26, 1921 in Crossville, Illinois. She was the first of 3 daughters of Arthur and Alice Bond Yates. She married Tinsley Hunter on January 19, 1942. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1984. Eight years later she married Reginald E. Kelley who died February 4, 2003. Marie had been an active parent volunteer in her two children' s lives, both in school and church. She is survived by her daughter, Janet and husband Bob Lees; grandson, Donny and wife Krystle and soon to be great granddaughter, Kaylin Marie Lees. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret King and nephew, Brian of Indiana, nieces Ellen Pettijohn, Martha and husband Rick Hider of Indiana, nephew Lloyd Winter of Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, her son, Rev. Dr. Craig Hunter of Global Ministries of United Methodist Church who has been in Heaven since May 5, 1998, sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Harold Winter, brother-in-law, John King and niece, Nancy Fogt. Funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio 44304. Pastor Nathan Ward of Wooster Nazarene will officiate the service. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
