Timothy Ochsenhirt

November 16, 1946 — November 9, 2017

Timothy J. Ochsenhirt, 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 9, 2017. Tim was born November 16, 1946, in Phoenix, AZ. At a young age, his family returned to Akron where he grew up and built his life. He graduated from St. Vincent High School (1964), earned a BA in Political Science from the University of Akron (1968), followed by his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law (1971). Upon graduation, he returned to Akron and began his 42-year career with Roetzel & Andress. Tim joined Roetzel & Andress as a trial lawyer before becoming Chairman & Chief Executive Officer in 1985. While the firm continued to grow, his greatest accomplishment was building relationships with his colleagues and their spouses. He took great pride in making everyone around him successful. Above all, Tim was most admired for his love and devotion to his family - they were his greatest joy. He loved being the loudest and craziest Pop who always knew how to make his grandkids laugh. He always loved Akron and was heavily involved in community organizations and initiatives. He enjoyed watching basketball, especially games 3, 5, 6, and 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals. Beyond that, he had a passion for pinball, Spider Solitaire, and Jack Daniels. Tim had a boisterous and generous spirit, and was well-regarded and admired by everyone he met. He loved the simple things in life but nothing was done in moderation. He gave graciously, laughed loudly, and loved endlessly. Tim has been reunited with his soulmate Nancy, who preceded him in death, as well as his parents: Russell and Rose Ochsenhirt, and sister Terry (George) Isoma. Tim is survived by his children: Heidi (Adam) Christmann, Emily (Nick) Fernandez, Kristen (Elliot) Hujarski and Matthew Ochsenhirt (Matthew Dawes); grandchildren: Drew, Ben and Kate Christmann, Ellison, Sam and Max Fernandez, and Luke Hujarski; brothers: David (Renata) Ochsenhirt and Michael (Pola) Ochsenhirt; sisters: Bonnie (Jack) Trickett, Mary (John) Cavileer and Jean Ochsenhirt; mother-in-law, Jane Hull, father-in-law, Jim (Patricia) Pardieck; sisters-in-law: Judy Albrecht and Tracey (Doug) Stapleton. Tim was a devoted uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and had a special place in his heart for Rydell Brooks. We are forever grateful to the Summa Health family and the exceptional care they have provided to our family. We would also like to thank so many of our Dad's incredible friends for all of their love and companionship over the years. Tim was THE BEST dad, father-in-law, Pop, brother and friend in the world. To say he will be greatly missed by everyone is an understatement. Calling hours will be held Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the ballroom at The Tangier, 532 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44303. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 164 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44303. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Vincent-St. Mary Endowment Fund, 15 N. Maple St., Akron, OH 44303 or The Boys and Girls Club of the Western Reserve, 889 Jonathan Ave., Akron, OH 44306.
