On Christmas Day, Thomas Alvin Thompson, Sr.,beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend was lifted out of this mortal realm and into the loving embrace of Jesus Christ in paradise He was married 65 years to his best friend, Virginia. A loving and supportive father to sons Thomas and Timothy (both deceased), Dan, Matt and Michael (Rebekah) and taught them by example the importance of hard work and doing the right thing. Thomas was a retired Akron Police Officer who enjoyed Soap Box Derby, word search puzzles and dancing with Virginia. He took model airplane building to an art form and was such a talented gunsmith that Troopers, Sheriffs and Police Officers from accross the state sought out his services. He served in the Navy during WWII. Thomas is also survived by grandchildren Joshua, Wesley, Madison and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 28, 4-7 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 29, 11:00 am at Visitation of Mary (Annunciation) Catholic Church, 55 Broad St., Akron. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
