Thomas I. Powers, age 87, passed away on Aug. 2, 2016. He was born on May 23, 1929 to the greatest mother in the world, Mary Gerlach Powers. Tom graduated high school from Toledo Central Catholic, Class of 1947 and served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from the C&O Railroad as a yardmaster. Tom then entered the computer field in its beginning stages with NCR. Tom began his own business, Powers Enterprises, in 1978 which is currently operated by his son, Dennis. Tom was a Hall of Fame Member of the Akron Silver Softball League. He was a charter member of the Copley Lions Club and a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church since 1968. Preceded in death by his wife, Annette (Hohenbrink) and 5 siblings; he is survived by his children, Ken (Sharon), Mark (Joyce), Greg (Chris), Julie (Mike) Grauel, Dennis (Patty) and Amy (Jeff) Lorentz; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Jean Powers and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Saturday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1686 S. Cleveland-Massillon Rd. Copley, Ohio 44321. Private interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Visiting Nurse, 3358 Ridgewood Dr. Akron, Ohio 44333.
