Thomas McCusker

AKRON - Born in 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland, Thomas Joseph McCusker died the 30th of June at The Village of St. Edward Nursing Home after a long struggle with failing health. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Patrick McCusker and Minna Vertalee Nieman McCusker, his sister Vertalee Pillsbury, and granddaughter Mariel Rose. He is survived by the love of his life of 64 years, Evelyn, whom he married in 1952, and his sister Patricia Hagan Reese. He was the proud father of six children: John Patrick (Kellie), Vivian Saxe (Andy), Marcia McCusker, Maureen Menosky (Pete), Sheila Spangler (Hayes), and Karen Spangler (Jeff). He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. When Tom was graduated from Cornell University Sibley School of Engineering in 1948, he began his engineering career at Babcock & Wilcox Company in Barberton, Ohio, which was interrupted by the war in Korea. He then became an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard and is a veteran of that war. Tom loved his family and his church. He served on Parish Council and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. His smile was his signature, now his smile is everywhere. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 11AM at St. Sebastian Church, 476 Mull Ave. Akron. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Cremation to follow. Interment of cremains in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
