Thomas Dodson

Tom Dodson through amazing grace passed into heaven on Wednesday October 27. Born in Akron Tom lived his way fulfilling his passionate zeal for life through his boundless energy and boisterous song. A loving husband father brother and friend Tom loved his family as passionately as he worked. Tom also cultivated a family of the heart. Parties were a staple of his home be it a Sunday Browns game or a holiday celebration at the lakehouse. College buddies turned brothers Tom worked side by side Bob Doerr and Rich Hohman for 40 years working on rentals solving problems or learning new words to the same old song. So many consider Tom a very special friend and will always treasure the gift of his friendship. A dedicated 26-year employee of Smithers Scientific Services Tom gained an international reputation in the field of tire forensics and litigation. Self described as 'just a tire guy ' Tom regularly consulted with a variety of high-profile clients and was respected worldwide as a preeminent expert on pneumatic tires. Tom was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers American Chemical Society Tire Society and Akron Rubber Group. Tom co-authored 'The Pneumatic Tire' included in a book by the NHTSA. Tom's engineering skills never clocked out for the day. A member of the Early Ford and Thunderbird clubs under Tom's creative and capable hands rusting classic cars were born to a new glory. Tom and Jan have owned landmark Bob's Hamburg for the past seven years to keep an area tradition alive and allow it to be appreciated by generations to come. Leaving on earth to sing his memory is Jan his beloved wife of 35 years and duet partner and children Bob and Kristin Dodson and Rita and Doug Kapusinski. Tom enjoyed time with grandson Zackary Dodson every moment he could. His sister Candy Watson (Dave Gould) niece Tiffany and nephew Matt Montgomery his wife Blayna grandnieces Jacquelyn and Elizabeth will miss Tom's love so will as numerous other nephews and nieces. Tom enjoyed his family and working with all five of his uncles especially Harry and Dick (Mary Jane) Dodson. Together they formed a great team. Tom filled his life with song and so should his public tribute be marked with sweetest sound 'We've no less days to sing God's praise as when we first begun.' Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday October 30 2010 at 10 AM at Guardian Angels Catholic Church 1686 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd. Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at Guardian Angels Catholic Church TODAY October 29 2010 from 3-8 PM. Those attending the funeral and/or procession are encouraged to drive their classic car as a tribute to Tom.
