Thomas Chase died Friday, June 9th in Springfield VA. A native of Syracuse NY, he was the son of the late Leslie Chase and Margaret Collins Chase. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Later, he received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Akron. In 1962 Tom married the late Joan Tunberg in Akron Ohio and together they celebrated 53 years of marriage. As an employee of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, Tom ran tire factories in Nairobi, Kenya, Bangkok, Thailand, San Jose, Costa Rica and Lisbon, Portugal. Upon retiring in 1986 he and Joan moved to Savannah, GA, where they resided for the next 29 years, and he spent his final two years in Springfield, VA. Surviving are his three sons, Thomas Chase (Cecelia) of Atlanta Ga., Timothy Chase (Pam) of Washington DC, and William Chase (Jenifer) of Chicago IL. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Shannon, Jennifer, Kristin, Michael, Maeghan, Arden, and Tyler. He'll be remembered fondly by all as a good fellow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St, Akron, OH 44303 at noon on Friday, June 16, 2017. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made to the church.
