Ted Tang

TANG - Ted H. M.D. 64 of Akron passed away at home on Friday September 30 2011 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born June 8 1947 in Shih Chih Taiwan Ted was the youngest of eight siblings. He graduated from Chung-Shan Medical College in 1972 and subsequently immigrated to the United States in 1975 to fulfill his lifelong dream of practicing medicine. Employed first by Summa Barberton Hospital during his early years Ted later opened the doors to his own family practice in 1978. Located in Green where he remained throughout his career he became a physician at Akron General Medical Center in 1997 when the two collaborated to continue the care of his patients. Passionate about medicine both in and out of the office Ted served as President of the North American Taiwanese Medical Association (Cleveland Chapter) in 2006 as well as a rotating associate professor at NEOUCOM. Known to many a devoted Buddhist Ted pioneered the Buddhist Association of Wisdom and Compassion with his wife Crystal in 1988. Highlights of his love for missionary work include trips to several countries throughout Asia Australia and New Zealand with Venerable Jen Chun in addition to visits to Brazil Buenos Aires and Argentina with Venerable Chwan-Tao and Venerable Ji Ru. Ted is survived by his beloved wife Crystal Tang; two sons Wilson Tang and Alexander Tang; and his extended family in Taiwan. Filled with kindness compassion and generosity which he exuded without effort Ted will be deeply missed by all those lucky to have known him. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to his numerous physicians and caretakers. A service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday October 9 2011 at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E.
