Steven J. Zimmerman, Jr., 83 years old, passed away May 27, 2016. He was born August 18, 1932 in Akron, OH to the late Steven Sr. and Regina Zimmerman. Steve was a graduate of East High School. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, where he met his wife of 50 years, Anne. After leaving the Navy, Steve and Anne settled in Akron to raise their family. Steve worked in the trucking industry and was a dedicated member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Along with his wife Anne, Steve was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Ed Nagy and brother-in-law, Frank Scala. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Gayle Zimmerman, daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Mike Hausch and Maureen and Danny Lott; grandchildren: Heather (Drew), Tim (Alyssa), Angie (Al), Erin (Manny), Sean (Liz), Adam (Niki) and Alex; great grandchildren; Zack, Landyn, Danny, Jack, Anthony, Vinny, Layni and Frankie. Steve is also survived by his sisters Barbara Scala of Mesa, AZ, Jeannie (Frank) Nagy of Norton, OH and brother Paul (Bridie) Zimmerman of Warner Robins, GA.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 2nd at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St., Akron. Family will receive friends Thursday from 9-10:30 a.m. at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. Akron. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul Catholic Church. Private internment will be held at a later date. Dad (Gramps), we want you to know we are OK, you taught us well. We know to always have a back up plan, how to pack for a month in a duffel bag, how to play the stock market and most importantly how to make the garlic grow!! It was time for you to be with Nonnie. We love you. You will be missed. Be happy!
