The Lord called home one of his angels, Stephen A. Taylor, 77, on Thursday, August 6, 2015. As Steve would say, we have a quick story for you. Steve will be remembered as husband, father, friend and mentor who taught us the importance of giving generously of his time, talent and treasure. He never turned his back, his heart or his compassion on anyone in need. Steve was a life-long resident of the Akron area, graduated from Springfield High School and lived the past 41 years as a resident of Tallmadge. He was a long-time member of Annunciation (Visitation of Mary) Parish. His passions included providing for his family, serving others and the sport of golf. Steve lived a life of service and was an active member of Annunciation Holy Name Society for many years and also served as Coach for several of his children's CYO teams over the years. As his kids grew, he took up the game of Golf and this quickly became one of his favorite passions. He was the Secretary of the Annunciation - Hummel Golf League for over 31 years and dubbed himself the 'Benevolent Dictator' of the league (Boys - don't fold those score cards!). In addition to serving the community, he also served his friends and family with his patience, compassion and humor. He always had a hug to give and a smile to share. He touched many lives throughout his life with his generosity of spirit and sincerity of character. He leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered forever. Steve would not want you to shed a tear on his behalf. Instead, he would want you to share a hug or kind word with someone in need. He never measured himself by what he had, but rather, by the people who loved him. He was one of a kind and leaves some big shoes to fill. In fact, if they aren't grading on a curve, we are all in trouble! Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond 'Skeeter' Taylor, brothers-in-law John Kittinger and Ed Arvay, sister-in-law Sue Arvay and niece Morgan Lynn Pugh. He is survived by his beloved 'lovely bride' of 53 years Kathy (Kernan), sons Brian (Steve), Chris (Karen), daughters Amy (Gary) and Julie, grandchildren Nicole, Andrew, Stephen, Allison, and Samuel, sisters Betty Kittinger, Linda Zielinski, brother Bob, sister-in-law Diane Taylor, brothers-in-law John Kernan, Vince (Marlene) Kernan and Mike (Mitzi) Kernan and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Special thanks to Davita Renal Centers and the Palliative Care Unit of Akron City Hospital for their care and support. Also thanks to many family members and special friends who were always willing to lend their time to provide transportation when needed. Friends will be received on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 4-7 pm at The Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am on Tuesday, at Visitation of Mary Parish, 87 Broad St., Akron, OH 44305. Cremation will follow with private family interment at Tallmadge Cemetery.
