Stephen was born on September 3, 1988 to Jeffrey and Dana (Garro) Stetz in Akron, OH. He graduated in 2012 from Holy Cross College, and has lived in Chicago, IL for the past two years, where he worked as an Account Manager for Chicago Beverage Systems. Stephen was preceded in death by his grandparents Patrick & Rita Garro of Akron, OH; and is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Dana Stetz of Akron, OH; his sister, Katelynn Stetz of Akron, OH; his grandparents, John and Eleanor Stetz of Barberton, OH; many aunts, uncles and cousins and many, many, friends in Akron, OH; South Bend, IN; and Chicago, IL. Stephen was a 2007 graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School where he played football for four years, never losing to the cross-town rival. After graduating from Hoban, Stephen continued his education with the Brothers of Holy Cross, attending Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, IN; where he played collegiate hockey and graduated with degrees in Business & Communications in 2012. After graduation, he moved to Chicago and loved his time in the big city and on the rooftop patio of his apartment, cooking out with old friends and new. He loved his job and enjoyed servicing his accounts on the south-side of Chicago, often taking candy bars with him to give to the homeless. Stephen loved spending his fall weekends with his friends at Notre Dame football games. It is said that a person only has maybe three true friends in the world. Stephen had more true friends than could be counted, and many were at the hospital and at his bedside when he passed, comfortably, in a roomful of family and friends from all over the country. His family thanks them for their tremendous support. The family would also like to thank The Brothers of Holy Cross of Notre Dame, IN; the ICU Staff at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, the South Bend Police Department and Archbishop Hoban High School and the Hoban community for their hard work, compassion, care and support during this most difficult time.
