Sophie Salem

Sophie Salem 95 passed away Thursday February 9 2006 in Lincoln Nebraska. Born January 28 1911 in Beresford South Dakota she was a resident of Akron for almost 80 years. Sophie was a member of St Joseph's Melkite Catholic Church. Sophie was active in Catholic Service League and a long time former member of the Women's Auxiliary Board of the International Institute. She was preceded in death by her husband Kareem; sons Gene and Charlie; daughter Dianne Kalail. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Donna and Earl Hatfield of Lincoln Nebraska; brother Lee Salem of Ocean Shores Washington; sisters in law Laura Salem of Akron and Alberta Salem of Fremont Ohio; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great- grandchildren. Funeral Liturgy will be Wednesday February 15 2006 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Melkite Catholic Church 600 West Exchange Street. Interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. on Tuesday from 4-8 with a wake service at 7:30 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Melkite Church The International Institute of Akron or the Charlie Salem Memorial Scholarship fund at the University of Akron.
