Shirley Perrine Rosa age 88, of Akron for 6 years, (formerly of Mentor for 16 years) died peacefully at her daughter's home, on Monday, March 29, 2021.
She was born Sept. 10, 1932 in Lyndhurst, Ohio.
Shirley was a graduate of Brush High School in Lyndhurst and attended Bowling Green State University, majoring in Education, later finishing her degree via correspondence at Sacramento State. While at Bowling Green State College she met her husband, Charles (Chuck) Rosa. They married in 1953 at Lyndhurst Community Church and had four children over the next 8 years. Chuck served for 20 years in the United States Air Force, taking Shirley and their children all over the world. Shirley was a homemaker for over 25 years and then pursued a second career in Library Science. She worked on the Bookmobile for a couple of years and then as a Children's Librarian, (where she was a Storyteller) in the Medina County Library System for 17 years. Upon retirement she moved to Mentor and remarried her sweetheart, Chuck. She also volunteered at TriPoint Medical Center. She moved to Akron after Chuck's passing in 2014.
Shirley enjoyed tent camping and hiking with her family in her younger years. Throughout her lifetime, her favorite pastime was reading. She was very artistic and pursued many creative endeavors over the years including oil and acrylic painting, paper mache, crocheting, woodworking, sewing, quilting, and jewelry making, to name just a few. She enjoyed traveling, especially visiting Ireland many times.
Survivors include her children, Carl (Georgiann) Rosa of Henderson, Nev., David (Roberta) Rosa of Camp Verde, Ariz., Katherine Burton of Wadsworth, Mary (Daniel) Detwiler of Akron; along with 18 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen (Don) Trotter, brother Roger (Bess) Perrine; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Shirley in death were her parents, Paul and Lovina Perrine, husband, Charles Rosa, and sister, Lorna Minich.
The family will receive family and friends at 10:00 am, followed by a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 17th at 11:00 am with lunch afterwards at Heritage Reformed Baptist Church 5715 Market Ave N, Canton, OH 44721.
Interment will be in South Henrietta Cemetery, Henrietta Twp., Ohio.
