SISTER SHIRLEY ANN NUGENT OP Sister Shirley Ann Nugent OP formerly Sister Reginald 82 died at on Saturday December 14 2013 at Regina Health Center Richfield OH. She was born on March 25 1931 to Calvin and Paula Nugent in Akron OH. She was a graduate of St. Vincent High School in Akron in 1948 and entered the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron now the Dominican Sisters of Peace from St. Martha Parish that same year. She received her BSE from St. John College Cleveland in 1955 and MSE from the University of Akron in 1969. Sister's teaching career began at Our Lady of the Elms Preschool and then at St. Paul Akron with pre-schoolers and kindergarteners from 1950-65. In 1966 she opened the Our Lady of the Elms Special Education School which continued for the next 25 years. For several summers she was hired as director of the Rotary Camp in south Akron. In 1988 she studied at Good Samaritan Medical Center Phoenix AZ to become certified in CPE enabling her to be chaplains at St. Vincent Health System Jacksonville FL; Regina Health Center Richfield OH Mercy Medical Center Canton and Akron General Medical Center. Sister Shirley Ann served her congregation as Development Director for two years was on the Vocation Commission and on the Community & Spiritual Life Commission. Sister Shirley Ann is survived by her sister Mary Nugent of Akron several nieces nephews grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Richard and Charles and sister Joan Janes. Visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Elms Convent 1230 W. Market St. Akron from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 17 with a Wake Service at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday December 18 in the Elms Chapel at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
