Sebastian Karol Johnson entered this world with a precipitous, unexpected homebirth on February 9, 2018. He passed to perfect, eternal life just as precipitously on August 30, 2024 in a swimming accident. During his six years, he brought boundless excitement and energy, an impish smile, and a pint-sized helping of chaos wherever he went.
Sebastian would dash through the hallways in the house, spin in a circle in the kitchen and say with pizzazz, "I love sugar!" before zipping out again. One could often find him bouncing on the trampoline, dressing up with cape and great kilt, or whacking siblings with homemade foam swords - or sometimes doing all three at once.
In quieter moments, he collected blackberries, pill bugs, and toads in the backyard to the glee of his little sisters. He would tag-team with a brother on a computer game or plan character creation for their next evening's dice adventure. Sebastian would gather an armload of storybooks and silly poetry, plop on the couch, and listen to them being read aloud by anyone who had voice enough to last through his pile. He loved hearing Bible stories and would inject himself into the action. "If I were Cain, I would just go be mad in a different room." But his favorite story was the story of St. Sebastian. He loved looking at pictures of his patron and would whisper, "That's me. That's saint me." He was seldom short of words. He only stopped talking when he was asleep, and sometimes not even then according to the brothers who shared his bedroom.
Sebastian was surrounded by a family who loved him dearly: his parents Wayne and Maria, his siblings Patrick, Elaina, Gabriel, Blaise, Lawrence, Raphael, Cordelia and Zita, as well as a soon-to-be-born brother. Similarly, he was loved by his grandparents Joe and Terrie Kemper and Mark and Kathy Johnson, as well as his great-grandparents Edward and Nancy Amundsen, and a multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins. Sebastian is now welcomed into the court of heaven by his uncle Karl Joseph Johnson, cousin Jaxson Michael Lencke and an unborn older brother Michael. Also preceding him in death were six great-grandparents, Oren and Pauline Johnson, Ervin and Helen Kemper, and Denis and Mary Helen Kreimer.
