Scott Evan Evans, 69, headed for the next gig on June 11, 2022. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Jack and Jackie Evans. He and his late brother, Kevin started playing guitar when Jackie brought one home from her job at the Gibson guitar factory. He played in bands across the country, including Kalamazoo, MI; Collinsville, IL; Boulder, CO; Los Angeles, CA; Nashville, TN; and Sedona, AZ before moving to Akron. Scott was a devoted father to son, Oliver and through him was involved in Boy Scouts and Unitarian Universalist Youth groups in Akron and across the region. He loved to teach kids how to play chess, share the wonders of the pentatonic scale, and figure out what equipment would best support the performances of his fellow musicians. During Covid he turned his attention to writing songs that shared his wisdom, love and sense of fun. They are good songs.
He will be deeply missed by son, Oliver; his wife, Hallie; his sister, Candy (Frank) Murphy; brother, Chris Evans; friend, Kathy Evans; long-time friends in Kalamazoo, and everyone who ever had the chance to meet him.
A Celebration of Scott's life will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, 3300 Morewood Ave. Fairlawn, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rubber City Ukes, c/o Mandy Brooks, 2427 Covington Road, Akron, Ohio 44313 to support their mission of music to everyone, providing ukuleles to area schools, and building community through playing, singing, and performing together.
