Sally Raitz

February 19, 1939 — July 6, 2011

Sally Irene 72 beloved daughter of Richard Farmer and the late Florence Winkler passed peacefully Wednesday July 6 2011 surrounded by her family. As a loving wife Sally and her husband Robert (Bob) were married fifty years. She was a caring and devoted Mother of two Bradford (Karen) and Shelby (Ross) and proud Grandmother to Bryan. Sally was the oldest of eight children - Barbara Parkes Patricia Remacle (Remy) Michael Farmer Kathy Swanson Joanne Winterhalter (Gary) Victoria Echler and Diane Wilson (Greg). Sally was a native of Toledo Ohio where she graduated from the Notre Dame Academy and afterwards pursued her career in nursing. She earned her degree from the Mercy School of Nursing and began her nursing career. Sally's caring nature was perfect as her first job in nursing began as a medical and surgical nurse at Mercy Hospital. As Bob entered the Hospital Administration masters program in Minnesota Sally utilized her nursing skills and participated in special research projects directed by national leaders in healthcare. As Bob started his residency in Healthcare Administration he and Sally moved to Rhode Island where she continued nursing and participated in several studies some run by Harvard Medical School. Then they moved back to Minnesota where they started their family. Sally donated much of her time to the Junior League and volunteered countless hours at the Children's Home Society. Through their Catholic faith their prayers were answered and they were able to adopt Brad and Shelby. Bob and Sally travelled throughout Europe and the Middle East and even lived in Tehran for a year. Upon their return from the Middle East Sally went back to work at Vanderbilt University Hospital and worked on special nursing projects. After ten years in Nashville the family moved to Dayton Ohio and then Akron Ohio. Sally continued her nursing career at Akron General Medical Center and worked as a nurse auditor until she became ill. Sally was a breast cancer survivor and eventually passed due to chronic dementia. Sally loved travelling with her family and loved dancing. She loved walks on the beach and eating ice cream with Bob and her grandson Bryan. Sally was truly loved by all of her family and friends and we will all miss her beautiful smile and sense of humor. The Lord has taken Sally home she will be missed. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday July 9 2011 at St. Hilary Catholic Church 2750 W. Market St. Fairlawn. Procession will form at the church. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Family will receive friends at Hummel Funeral Home COPLEY 3475 Copley Rd. on TODAY July 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mercy School of Nursing where Sally attended.
