Ruby Horning

Ruby L. Horning 83 passed away December 25 at Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service surrounded by her loved ones. Ruby was born in Blue Ridge Georgia on October 20 1927. She was the eighth of ten children and the last survivor. She moved to Ohio in 1947 first working at Krogers and later at The Firestone Bank. Ruby enjoyed a number of activities. She bowled in the same league for over 40 years and enjoyed golfing in two leagues as well as with friends. She was involved in two thoroughly enjoyable bridge groups where she developed close enduring friendships. She enjoyed playing euchre and other card games with special friends. She cherished her long standing membership and close friends of the West Side Church of Christ. Ruby was always the consummate hostess whether entertaining children in the back yard with cookies and koolaid or throwing a party for family and friends. People were always delighted with her cooking and storytelling. For over 30 years she opened 'Ruby's Kitchen' to the Akron Barbershop Harmony singers their families and their friends following the annual Copley Circle performance. Ruby loved being a mother and delighted in being a grandma. Her family was her greatest joy. In addition to her siblings Ruby was preceded in death by her infant son Thomas and her son-in-law John McIntyre Jr. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 50 years Charlie; daughter and son-in-law Holly and Don Millican; son Bill; grandsons Thomas and Matthew McIntyre Nick (Heather) Daniel (fiancée Jacqueline Sabo) and Brandon Millican; great granddaughter Maria Grace Millican; sisters-in-law Marcy Ruhman Marcella Nichelson Emma Hembree; brothers-in-law Bob (Ann) Horning Ray (Rose Marie) Horning; special extended family Mary and Patricia McIntyre John and Joseph Walsh. She also was blessed with many loving nieces nephews and wonderful friends. The family will greet friends Wednesday Dec. 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Hummel Funeral Home COPLEY 3475 Copley Rd Copley OH 44321. Service will be held Thursday December 30 at 10:30 am at West Side Church of Christ 645 N. Revere Rd Akron OH 44333. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Anthony's Angels 3192 Trotter Rd. Norton OH 44203 or Copley Fire and Rescue 1540 S. Cleveland-Massillon Rd Copley OH 44321.
