Robert R. Hicks, (78), of Copley, Ohio, passed away on November 5, 2022.
Bob was born to Luther and Virginia Hicks on April 17, 1944, in Columbiana, Ohio. He started working in his family's wrecker business at a very young age and spent most of his working life involved in the trucking industry in various roles. He also served in the Army as a tank mechanic in Germany during the Vietnam War and was the Assistant Fire Chief for the Columbiana Volunteer Fire Department prior to moving to Copley in 1978. His love of Ohio State football and NASCAR was well known amongst family and friends. Bob was a huge dog lover, and always enjoyed sharing stories about his four-legged friends, Major, Brutus, and Coach, who were by his side at different times over the past 30 years. He spent most of his life teaching his sons by example the lifelong benefits of hard work. Bob could fix just about anything with the right tools, and if the right tools weren't available, he would still manage to find a solution to just about any problem, and rarely went anywhere without a screwdriver and roll of duct tape.
After retirement, Bob and his wife visited nearly every state in the US. Their favorite place to visit was Alaska. A proud father and grandfather, he always enjoyed bragging to everyone about his sons and grandson.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy, his two sons, Steve (Tracy), and Tim (Cheryl), his grandson, Tyler (Emily), sister-in-law Donna, nephew Mike, niece Sherri, niece Vicki, and niece Carla. He was predeceased by his parents, his older brother, Bud, and older sisters, Lois and Shirley.
Funeral service will be 6:00pm Friday, November 11 at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd. Copley, Ohio 44321, where friends may visit from 5-6pm. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 14, at 2:15pm at the Ohio Western National Cemetery in Rittman.
