Robert James Kerr, Sr, 90, departed this world for heaven on March 6th, 2016. Bob was born July 16, 1925 in Antigo, Wisconsin to Margaret Dorothy and Samuel Felix Kerr. As a young child their family moved to Ironwood, Michigan where his love of snow skiing took root. He entered the military in 1943 and served 4 years in the Navy and 6 years in the reserves. He was voted outstanding man by his fellow bluejackets and won a recommendation for training as a motor machinist. He served on a swift striking invasion fleet, which was the most advanced in the Navy amphibious armada in the Pacific. After moving to Akron, he began Temperature Control Co in Akron, Ohio, which has been in business now for 64 years! He served as President of the MCA of Akron, The Builders Exchange of Akron, and served on many committees to better the industry. His passions were his family first, his deep faith and helping others. He had been a long-standing member of St. Paul's Catholic church on Brown Street in Akron. He had a passionate philanthropic heart, contributing to many worthy causes, even serving on the Board of Directors for the Interval Brotherhood Home. He served as Grand Knight of Council 3410 and also a member of the Fourth Degree. Bob was preceded in death by his late wife Margaret E. Kerr (Gray); his daughter Peggy (Margaret) Schobert; his son-in-law Jeffrey Schobert; his 5 brothers, Jack Kerr, William Kerr, Merlin Kerr, Eugene Kerr, David Kerr; his sister Mary Parsons and his step-daughter Kathleen Hoagland. Bob is survived by his wife Genevieve Thomas-Kerr; sisters-in-law Bobbie Kerr and Joyce Kerr; children Laura, Robin (Randy) Harvey, Robert Jr. (Karen), John (Mary Beth) and step-children Mary Ann (James) Davis, Jim (Darlene) Thomas, Patricia Thomas, Theresa (David) Biscan, Rose (Tim) McCafferty; 9 grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 21 step-great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 15, 4-7 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., where the Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 16, 10:00 am at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Rd. in Green. Interment Greenlawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made to your favorite charity in his memory.
