Rita Sonderman

Rita Margaret (nee Fongheiser) Sonderman 92 of Akron died October 27 2009. Born in Barnesboro PA Rita lived in the Akron area for most of her life. She married Alfred W. Sonderman in 1939 and the couple made their home in Kenmore where they were members of the Immaculate Conception parish. In 1958 the family moved to West Akron and became members of St. Sebastian parish. Rita especially enjoyed her faith sharing group sewing and children. She and Al raised 5 children and foster parented 22 others through the Catholic Service League. At the time of her death Rita was a resident of the Village at St. Edwards. Rita is preceded in death by her husband of 62 yrs Alfred; brothers John Walter James and Richard; and sisters Philomena Gill and Eleanor Gearhart. She is survived by her children Betsy (Nelson) Reyes Jeanne (Larry) Placanica Michael (Jackie) Sonderman Anthony (Karen) Sonderman and Stephen (Michelle Mueller) Sonderman; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters Mary Borden Louise Konich and Dorothy (Bill) Zoltai; in-laws Rita Fongheiser Roy Gearhart Alice Fongheiser and Dorothy Sonderman. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday October 31 2009 at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St Akron. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
