We celebrate the life of Richard A. Grentz who passed to the Higher Power on March 1, 2016. Preceded in death by his mother, Rose Slabe and brother, Frederick J. Grentz; he is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Linda C. Borders; children Jarred A. Grentz and Jamie R. Grentz; step-children Stephanie S. Mohler and Evan J. Strebel; and ten grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Born December 20, 1943 in Cleveland Richard grew up farming in Geauga County and attended the Cardinal School District. He served in the U.S. Navy (1962-1968) and was a plank owner of the U.S.S. Albany (CG-10), a guided missile cruiser and the flagship of the Commander of the 6th Fleet. Richard was employed as a structural iron worker and was a member of the Iron Workers Local #17 and Iron Workers Tennessee Valley. A resident of Akron he enjoyed his family, his friends and neighbors, rehabilitating older homes, and taking long drives through the countryside. We appreciate the quiet strength of Richard's soul. He will be missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
