Richard Bender

Richard Addie Bender passed away on August 6, 2024 at the age of 78. Richard graduated from Copley High School and Otterbein University. Upon graduation Richard ran the family farm and market before taking on a second career with FedEx Express. Richard was a dedicated courier and retired as one of the facility managers in Akron. Richard spent a career delivering the FedEx Promise.

In retirement, Richard enjoyed selling wares at the Hartville Flee Market where he made many friends. Richard loved to travel visiting Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Richard could always be seen with one of his four legged companions that he pampered throughout his life. Richard was known for his friendly smile, his generosity and his willingness to help others.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents Addie and Julia Bender and his brother Addie. Richard leaves behind his twin sister Margie Marshall (Jeff), brothers Ken Bender and Mark Bender (Kim) and sister Cindy Richards (Don).

The family thanks Richard's neighbor and special friend Loretta Ostroski who made it possible for Richard to live in his home for extra years before dementia finally put him in Memory Care. And a special thanks to Jane Nickerson who visited with Richard regularly while in Memory Care.

The family thanks the staff members of Heritage Crossing and Southern Care Hospice for the loving care that they provided to Richard over the last two years.

The family will greet friends at Hummel Funeral Home at 3475 Copley Road, Copley OH 44321 on Saturday, August 10 from 10:00 - 11:30. Immediately following will be a brief service.
