Raymond Stankard

Raymond Edward Stankard Raymond Stankard, age 86, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Naples, Florida. A lifetime resident of Akron, Ohio and Naples, Florida Ray is survived by Jackie, his loving wife of 57 years, sons Mark, Mike, Jeff, and Jim, daughters-in-law Laura, Karen, Gina and Tammy and grandchildren Ryan, Tom, Shea, Connor, Jack, Abby, Alex and Anna. Ray attended St. Sebastian grade school, Buchtel High School and graduated from the University of Akron in 1950 where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in Germany after the end of World War II, achieving the rank of captain. He spent his career at Goodyear Aerospace where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Ray was an active community volunteer. He served as Board Chairman for Goodwill Industries, Junior Achievement and Greater Akron YMCA. He was also active in numerous aerospace, defense and aviation industry associations. Social memberships included Fairlawn Country Club and Stonebridge Country Club in Naples, FL. He attended St. Sebastian and St. Hilary churches and St. John the Evangelist in Naples, FL. He enjoyed his many friends, golf, tennis and biking. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Hummel Funeral Home 500 East Exchange St, Akron OH 44304 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Sebastian Church on Saturday, March 28 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray's memory can be made to the Akron Christ Child Society P.O. Box 13411 Akron, OH 44334.
