Raymond Daniel McCorkle, 95, of Akron, Ohio died peacefully at home on October 25, 2022.
Dan was born in Akron, and graduated from Buchtel High School where he played varsity football. He left high school early to enter the United States Navy in 1945 and served on a ship in the Marshall Islands at the end of WWII. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Akron and retired as controller at B.F. Goodrich 40 years ago. He was a faithful member of St. Sebastian Parish and served as an usher, member of the grounds crew and food delivery driver. He gave generously of his time doing tax preparation for those who could not afford a tax preparer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Cleveland McCorkle and Mary Jane (Rhinesmith) McCorkle, his sisters: Mildred Burke, Margaret Gower, Genevieve Woods, Doris Sorenson and his granddaughter Kerri and grandson Dan Van Auken.
He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Jane (Munka) McCorkle. They recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary - a model of real love and vows kept - for better or worse until death do we part. He is also survived by his children Kathleen (Ron) Dawson, Christine McCorkle (Steve Van Auken), Robert (Susan) McCorkle, Patricia (Bill) Wehmer, and Diane (Mark) Armstrong. He also leaves his grandchildren Dan (Crystal) Jones, Liz (John) Mayo, Kate (Luke) Bunn, Neil (Patti) Dawson, Richard Wagner, Betsy (Curtis) Walker, Patrick McCorkle, Brian McCorkle, Sam (Olivia) McCorkle, Sarah (Pete) Beardmore, and Jessica (Eric) Walker. He is also survived by his 14 great grandchildren: Lily, Aiden, Fiona, Julia, Bennett, Evan, Bradley, Wrigley, Jameson, Oskar, Maddox, Caedence, Keegan and Liam.
His family will cherish fond memories of family vacations at the beach, his love of ice cream, cookies, the Cleveland Indians and his favorite furry kid Nikki. They will miss his famous whiskey sours to toast the holidays!
Deepest appreciation to all his caregivers at Brookdale especially Valerie, Ashley and Mary.
