Raymond P Hoffman passed away on July 26, 2023. He was born in Akron, Ohio on March 7, 1935, to Kenneth and Mary Hoffman.
Ray graduated from South High School in 1953 and married Marilyn Grace Ward in September, 1953. They had three children.
Ray worked for 28 years at Lawson Milk Company, and then worked for 10 years at Kent State University in Dorm Maintenance.
After retirement, Ray enjoyed hiking in the many local parks including Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Summit County Metro Parks. He volunteered as a Trailblazer and as a Lantern Carrier for the Underground Railroad in CVNP and volunteered for many events in the Summit County Metro Parks. He enjoyed traveling and went to Europe and cruised the Rhine River and visited Morocco and Spain.
Ray spent many years giving presentations in libraries, nursing homes, and for civic groups about the Women Air Service Pilots (WASP's) in WWI, and encouraged people to donate to the WASP Museum
Ray was Preceded in death by parents, Kenneth and Mary Hoffman; wife, Marilyn (Ward) Hoffman; sons: Robert Ward Hoffman, Kenneth Ray Hoffman; brother Richard Hoffman; sister Jean Donald; and grandson, Samuel Wilson.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Wilson (Brian); daughter in law, Annette Tymcio; sister, Gerry Engle (Mercedes, Texas); grandchildren, Robert (AKA Lily), Benjamin, and Sarah Wilson; and great grandson, Jeremy Wilson.
Calling hours will be 4-7pm Friday, July 28, at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio 44304.
Donations may be made to the WASP Museum in Sweetwater, Texas, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and Summit County Metro Parks.
