Ray Fawcett

March 24, 1926 — July 14, 2008

Ray William Fawcett 82 of Fairlawn passed away July 14 2008 of complications from pulmonary fibrosis. Ray was born on March 24 1926 to Elsie (nee Tetlow) and Raymond W. Fawcett in Alliance OH. Ray attended Elsworth Elementary School Salem High School in Salem OH and graduated from Akron Garfield High School in June 1944. Ray enlisted in the Army Air Corp during WWII in 1944 and was discharged in August of 1946. He was a gunner on a B-29. Ray then enrolled at the University of Akron graduating in 1952 with an Industrial Management Degree. During his school years at the University of Akron Ray was in R.O.T.C. and made many great life-long friends with Lone Star Fraternity. He began as Assistant Plant Manager at Logan Metal Stamping in 1953 eventually rising to Vice-President and President. Ray retired in 1990 after 37 years of service. He loved his golfing at Fairlawn Country Club piloting his own plane skiing out west and the beaches of N. Carolina. Ray was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Elsie; and brother Terry Fawcett. Ray leaves to mourn his wife of 26 years Nancy (nee Balko) Fawcett; his daughters Jan (Alan) Fortnoff of Akron Susan (Joseph) Penko of Copley and Kathleen (Russell) Hose of Copley. He leaves 7 grandchildren: Charles and Harrison Fortnoff Amanda and Joseph Penko Rachel Kara and Samantha Hose; step-daughter Anne Rodgers of AZ; step-grandchildren Robert Julianne and Jonathan Rodgers all of AZ. Also leaves brother Robert (Fran) Fawcett of Wooster; and sister Barbara Bala of Copley. Funeral Services will be held on Friday July 18 2008 at 9:30 AM at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. with Pastor Eugene Meador officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday July 17 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
