Ralph F. Witt, age 91, passed away April 24, 2016. He was born October 21, 1924 in Akron to the late Sylvester and Marguerite Witt. Ralph was a World War II veteran, serving our country in the US Army with the 96th Infantry Division. Ralph was awarrded the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and two Oak Leaf Clusters. After the war, he worked in the transportation industry, retiring from Bowman Transportation in 1990. Ralph was a lifetime charter member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, serving as an usher for decades. Ralph was currently working as a lunch room monitor at St. Sebastian School. He was a volunteer at many organizations, including Stan Hywet, Sons of the Union Veterans, and Summit County Historical Society. Ralph was a member of the Model A Club and enjoyed driving and showing his own 1929 Model A Ford, winning several awards at the Father's Day Car Show at Stan Hywet. In his late 80's, Ralph took up woodcarving and enjoyed his time spent with the Wacky Woodcarvers. Preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Joan 'Jo', infant brother, Walter, brother, Sylvester, sister-in-law, Betty Jo, and brother-in-law, John Kelley; he is survived by his children, Sylvester J. 'Sy' (Ramona) and Meg (Larry) Lee; grandchildren, Lauren (Michael) Kovarik, Robert Lee and Katie Lee; great grandson, David Kovarik; sister, Sarah Jane Kelley and nieces and nephew. Calling hours will be Thursday 4-8 pm at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St Akron, Ohio 44304. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 am Friday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 576 Mull Ave. Akron, Ohio. Interment to follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Child Society or American Diabetes Association.
