Ralph B. Maher 86 died peacefully at home May 20 2004 surrounded by his loving family. Ralph served his family the community and his country. Ralph was born in Akron to Andrew and Elizabeth Maher on December 12 1917. He graduated from Buchtel High School and The University of Akron with a degree in business administration. He served in World War II at Homestead Air Force Base where he outfitted B29s for combat duty in England. In Florida he met and married Margaret (Midge) Scott a lieutenant in the Navy. After the war Ralph and Midge moved to Ann Arbor and Ralph earned a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. In 1948 Ralph began his law practice. His practice was interrupted by three more years of service in the Air Force in Newfoundland. Ralph returned to Akron retired a Lieutenant Colonel raised a family of seven children and practiced law for 50 years. Ralph was a charter member of Saint Sebastian Church and Serra Club of Akron. He was a member of the Akron Bar Association the Ohio State Bar Association the Retired Officers Association Phi Kappa Tau and was past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 547. Preceded in death by his parents his wife of 50 years Midge his daughter Jean and his brother Leo he is survived by his daughters and sons-in-laws Marie and Eric Stajcer of Raleigh N.C. Alice and John Luse of Akron: sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Laurie Maher of Broadview Heights Doug and Lisa Maher of Norton Patrice Maher of Mayfield John and Pat Maher of Parma Lisa Maher of Lakewood James and Judy Maher of Cleveland; grandchildren Erin Cherewatti (Jamie) Terah Maher Austin Maher Cassia Maher Monique Maher Allison Stajcer Erica Stajcer Natalie Maher Ellen Maher Andrew Luse Julia Maher Courtney Maher Brian Maher Evan Luse Regina Maher James Maher Michelle (Colin) Widmar and Meredith Wiencek Great grandchildren Chase Cherewatti and Breck Widmar.
