Philipp Mayer

Philipp Mayer, 81 of Norton, passed away on August 3, 2015. Philipp is survived by children, Phyllis Mayer, Kenneth Mayer, Michelle (David) Clapper and Richard (Ann) Mayer; grandchildren, Emily and Noah Clapper and Nicholas and Madison Mayer, the heroes of his life and their biggest fan; sisters, Anna Marie (Lorenz) Strelbicki and Christine Kovach; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Maria Mayer; sister, Katherine Schwartz and brother, John Mayer. Philipp was born in Czonoplja, Yugoslavia and came to the United States in 1955. He worked as a machinist by trade but loved working with wood, building treasures that are cherished by his family and friends. Philipp's passion was training and racing his horses, allowing him to develop many long lasting friendships. Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Friday at Prince of Peace Parish, 1263 Shannon Ave. Barberton, Ohio. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
