December 22, 1923-June 11, 2017 Philip F. Myers, P.E., 93, died at home Sunday June 11, 2017 as peacefully as he lived, surrounded by his loving family. Born in 1923 in Annapolis, MD and raised in South Bend, IN, Phil earned his B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1944 and went to work for Lockheed. Following military service after WW II, he moved to Akron to work for Goodyear Aerospace where he spent most of his career, and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Industrial Products division. Phil's work included design and stress analysis of a variety of airplanes, airships, helicopters, Nike systems, weather and rescue balloons, and planetary landers. A proud member of the Glee Club while at Notre Dame, Phil sang for more than 40 years in the Holy Family Parish choir. An avid reader of fiction and non-fiction, Phil served for many years on the Stow Library Board. He also enjoyed walks in the metroparks and never missed a summer season of the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom. Phil was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Rita Wilson Myers, his second wife Evelyn, and siblings Laurence and Ralph Myers and Elizabeth Johnson. He is survived by brother Paul (Elsie Ann) Myers of Riverside, CA and sister Mary Lois (Francis) Molson of Mount Pleasant, MI. He is also survived by his and Rita's children Phil (Angie), Mary (Dave Tschantz), Dave (Kathleen), Rita (Bernie Rochford) all of Akron, Ralph (Karen) of Wadsworth, OH, John (Linda) of Powell, OH and Rick (Mindy Thompson) of Bagdad, KY. Also surviving are grandchildren Matthew Myers (Krissy), Emily Kurtz (Jim), Kathleen Unroe (Mark), MaryBeth Vehorn (Ben), David Tschantz (Malia), Peter Myers (Casey), Andrew, John, and Elizabeth R. Myers, Bernadette Streu (Jeff); Carrie, Elizabeth A., and Laura Myers; Jackie and Geoff Myers; Allison, RitaMary, Elle, and Hannah Rochford and great-grandchildren Claire, Kate, Lucy, Eve, Iris, Matt, Madelynn, Violet, Annalynn, Logan, Dominic, and Jacob. Phil took delight in being a member of a large extended family, and leaves numerous loving nieces and nephews. The family thanks dear nieces Rita Baker, Nancy Anderson, Kathleen Tomayko, and MaryBeth Wallman for their loving care. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, June 15 11AM at St. Hilary Church, 2750 West Market St., Fairlawn 44333. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
