Pearl Salcines Martin died peacefully January 3, 2018 surrounded by her family. An only child, she was born to Spanish immigrants December 24, 1925 in Akron. She graduated from Central High School and the University of Akron. Pearl worked for 10 years as a translator for General Tire International. She was preceded in death by her parents Damaso and Aurelia Salcines and her husband Patrick A. Martin. Pearl is survived by her son Gregg, her daughter Patricia (Jim) Able and grandson Charles Able. Pearl was gracious, kind, warm, compassionate and selfless, putting others before herself. She loved spending time with family, friends, and relatives; greeting all with an open door and a smiling face. A lover of learning, she was intelligent, positive, and witty. She loved beauty, a bargain, music, handbags and shoes. The family would like to thank Samantha Almendras M.D., the Staff of Cleveland Clinic AkGen VNS Hospice Care and the staff of Home Instead for the services they provided to Pearl. Funeral service will be 12:00pm Saturday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio 44304, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
