Paula Sutherland

Paula J Sutherland died June 1, 2018 following a long illness. Paula was born in Akron, Ohio and currently resided in Sharon Township, Medina County. Her parents were Leslie Paul Hinkle (deceased) and Virginia O. Hinkle. Paula is survived by her mother, husband, Gary Sutherland, daughter Stacie (Mike) Bodish, Copley, Ohio, stepdaughters Carrie Sutherland, Weston, Missouri, and Daune Sutherland, Waterbury, Connecticut, sister Debra (Fred) Bettes, Mentor, Ohio, six grandchildren, nieces and cousins. Paula graduated from Tallmadge High School, Class of 1965, attended The University of Akron and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She worked for several years at Goodyear. She never met a stranger and loved to travel. Her natural curiosity led to lifelong learning and enjoying nearly every person who crossed her path. Paula considered relocating an adventure, with moves to Topeka, Kansas, Cumberland, Maryland and Melbourne, Australia. Each new adventure meant making friends, exploring, volunteering and decorating. Travels to Europe, Africa, New Zealand, Tahiti, Fiji, Caribbean Islands and more were some of her favorite experiences. Paula believed in giving back and was most proud of her volunteer efforts with the Auxiliary at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Maryland, especially coordinating the efforts of the Snow Ball, a gala to support the hospital. She had a quick wit and great sense of humor. Dancing, skating and skiing were at the top of her list. A talented artist with an eye for decorating and landscaping allowed her to turn homes from ordinary to amazing. Paula will be deeply missed. Cremation has taken place. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley on Friday June 8, 2018 from 4 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to your favorite charity in remembrance.
