Paul S. Scarpitti, 87, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at his home. Paul was born December 11, 1927 in Akron, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, RoseAnna, his parents Patsy and Louise, brothers Art, Al, Ernie, Lawrence and sister Grace. As well as his loving companion, Marge North. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Karen of Columbus and daughter Kathy (Ron) Zahler of Zoar; grandchildren David (Brenda Graybill); Mallory (Ryan) Elkins and Paul; great-grandchildren Wyatt and Owen Zahler and Luke Elkins. Following graduation from Akron North High, he enlisted in the Army. He served stateside and was honorable discharged in 1947. During military service, he played football having enjoyed his four years of outstanding gridiron action at North High where he made the All-State Team. Enrolled at the University Of Akron, he pursued a degree in Industrial Engineering graduating in 1952 and was a member of the Lone Star Fraternity. While there, he played on the football team for 4years where he honed his athletic talents and was a stand out defensive player serving as co-captain his senior year. He continued to be involved as time keeper at the Rubber Bowl for many years and was a life time member of the A-Men Association. He was an avid supporter of the University of Akron and its football program establishing a scholarship in his name. He was also a life time member of The Italian Carovillese Club in Akron. Throughout his working career, he held many jobs most notable with Scarpitti Steel Co., General Motors, Terex Division, Goodyear Aerospace and Loral Corporation. He enjoyed playing golf with his brothers, being with family and friends, joining the Terex guys for weekly breakfast club in Hudson, sharing conversation with long time neighbor's, playing the piano and watching C-Span. He left a trail of goodness and generosity where ever he went. A chapel service will be held Friday, January 23, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Family at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. This will be followed at noon by a Memorial Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Cuyahoga Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to his favorite charities, St. Jude Research Hospital, Haven of Rest Ministries in Akron, and The American Cancer Society.
