Patsy L. Johnston (May, nee Shaw), 71, of Sharon Twp., OH passed away Friday, July 18th after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. She was born in Akron, OH on November 26th, 1942 to the late John R. and Nelda E. Shaw. Patsy grew up in Akron, attended the Akron Baptist Temple, Highland Park Elementary, and was a proud graduate of Kenmore High School Class of 1960. After high school Patsy worked with numerous businesses including: Firestone, Summit National Life, Babcock & Wilcox of Barberton, and TLT Babcock, from where she retired after many years as a secretary and administrative assistant. A lifelong resident of the Akron, OH area, Patsy's passion was her devotion to her family; spending time with her husband, George, raising her children, grandchildren, and her many beloved pets. An inspiration to all who knew her, Patsy never turned her back on her family, friends, God, or animals in need and spent her retirement providing loving support and care for her parents, and parents-in-law during their final years with us. She was a lover of animals, antiques, flowers, and people. To all of us blessed with knowing Patsy, we will remember her attention to detail and her attentive, selfless dedication to giving comfort to children, elderly folks, and animals. Patsy was a longtime volunteer at 'Chambrel Assisted Living Center' of Copley. Patsy is survived by George H. Johnston, her loving husband of 26-years, sons Gregory R. May (Teri), Douglas M. May (Jennifer), and daughter Paula L. May, grandchildren Taylor, Morgan, Austin, Tristan, Tiffany, Ashley, Jake, Jordan. She is preceded in death by her parents, John R. 'Bud' and Nelda E. Shaw, and grandparents John and Flossie Bissig. Our dear mother, wife, grandmother, friend; you taught us through your strength, courage, and love how important it is to give of oneself, and to be dedicated to our families and friends, not by your words, but by your work...you are our hero. We love you and will forever remember your gentle guidance and love. Cremation has taken place and family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, July 28th at 2:00 pm at the Akron Baptist Temple, 2324 Manchester Rd., Akron, OH 44314, Wake immediately following at the church.
