Patricia Krill

PATRICIA LOUISE KRILL Our loving Spouse Mother and Oma died on 28 March 2012. Pat was born on 22 January 1936 the daughter of Karl F. and Augusta R. (Rettig) Powers of Schuylkill County Pennsylvania. She became a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Reading before taking a position in the infant surgical section at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. During this part of her life she met and married Dr. Carl E. Krill Jr. a young medical school graduate from the University of Pennsylvania. They wed on 12 September 1959. From Philadelphia postgraduate training took the couple to Cincinnati where their first child a son was born. Six years later they welcomed a daughter into their lives. The family resided in Bethesda Maryland for two years during the Vietnam era before moving to Akron where the couple began a long association with Children's Hospital Medical Center. In Akron Pat devoted her energy to volunteer activities at the hospital at St. Sebastian Catholic Church and at her children's schools Walsh Jesuit and Our Lady of the Elms high schools. She was a member of the Women's Board of Catholic Social Services of Summit County for many years and in 2006 was honored as its Woman of the Year. Pat was also a member of Akron Woman's City Club where she particularly enjoyed being associated with their 'Attic Artists.' Pat leaves her husband; her son Prof. Carl E. Krill III of Ulm Germany; her daughter Jennifer (Michael) Gillis and grandson Jackson Gillis all of Pittsburgh; brothers Karl F. (Jane) Powers Jr. of Allentown and Gerald T. (Margaret) Powers of Indianapolis; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange ST. on Sunday 1 April from 1 to 4 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Church on Monday 2 April at 11AM. Private interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman will follow at a later date. The family suggests memorials to the McDowell Cancer Center at AGMC to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service to the Krill Family Fund for education at St. Sebastian School or to a children's charity of the donor's choice.
