Noreen Foley

Noreen Marie Foley was born in Akron, Ohio and attended St. Mary Elementary and High School. She attended Notre Dame College of Cleveland and graduated from Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan. As a member of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, she taught in several Michigan schools and at IHM High School in Westchester, Illinois. After receiving her Masters in Theology and Religious Education, from Catholic University of America, in Washington, DC she established the first Center of Adult Religious Education for the Diocese of Toledo. She also studied at Boston College in Newton, Massachusetts. She returned to Akron and worked in the field of Human Resources at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and Lockheed Martin from where she retired. She assisted in the establishment of the RCIA program at St. Sebastian Church and taught in it for seven years, served on the Liturgy Committee, served as a member of the Renew Team and was a Eucharistic Minister. She volunteered at Children's Hospital of Akron and was a member of the Pastoral Care Team at Akron General Medical Center. From its inception, she served on the Advisory Committee of The Children's Millennium Fund of the Akron Community Foundation and was a member of The Christ Child Society of Akron. She also served on the Board of Trustees of Archbishop Hoban High School. She was an Associate Member of her religious community- The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Monroe, Michigan. Not only were children and education central to her life, but golf played an important role. She was a member of the Good Park Ladies Golf League and the Daffy Duffers. Noreen was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Kelly and brother-in-law Chuck Kelly. She is survived by her three nephews, Brian (Ginger) of Cincinnati; Sean (Leanne) Kelly of Columbus; and Michael (Jill) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and ten great-nieces/nephews, Kaelin, Katherine, Erin, Colin, Ryan, Catherine, Conor, Elyse, Brady and Emily; as well as her beloved dog Murphy. Calling hours will be Monday, August 6, from 4-6 PM at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd. COPLEY. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 9:30 AM at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 476 Mull Ave., interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the IHM Sisters Retirement Fund, 610 West Elm Ave, Monroe, MI 48162; Foley Family Adult Religious Education Endowment @ St. Sebastian Church, 476 Mull Ave, Akron, OH 44320; and Foley/Kelly Family Memorial Scholarship @ Archbishop Hoban High School, One Holy Cross Blvd, Akron, Ohio 44306.
