Nonee Scantling

Nonee R. Scantling passed away peacefully on Friday January 30 2009 in her son Fred's home in San Antonio Texas. She was surrounded by her loving family. Nonee lived a remarkable life during her 86 years on this Earth: growing up in Ballarat Australia during the Great Depression; meeting her husband Fred--a young Marine Corps Captain at the time--in 1943 at a USO dance in Ballarat while he was recovering from malaria after fighting the Japanese with the 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal; moving to the US after WWII and raising four children--leaving family and friends in Australia behind; surviving 20+ moves with her husband during his 22-year career in the Marine Corps; and living with her son David (Molly) Scantling in their home for the past 7 years after her Alzheimer's set in. Nonee was preceded in death by her loving husband Fred and her parents James and Julia Ratcliffe. She is survived by her sister Joan and brother Bernard in Australia; daughters Marie (Joe) Keffer of Murphy NC and Carolyn (Bob) Duncan of Melbourne Beach FL; sons Fred (Cindy) Scantling of San Antonio TX and David (Molly) Scantling of Akron OH; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be held at 1100 a.m. Saturday February 7 2009 at St. Hilary Church 2750 W. Market St. Fairlawn Ohio. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service 3358 Ridgewood Rd.
