Nellie Tormey

Nellie A. Tormey 97 of Akron died peacefully at her home on April 9 2009. Nellie was born on August 2 1911 in Wilson Pennsylvania. As a recipient of a Henry Clay Frick scholarship she earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1931 at Frick Teacher's College Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and her Master's Degree from The University of Pittsburgh. She was a High School Physical Education and Health teacher until she married her husband John in 1946 and they moved to Akron Ohio in 1950. In 1946 Nellie changed her focus from teaching to raising her family to include three sons John Edward Thomas Arthur and James Nicholas. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Julia her husband John her son John Edward; sisters Aldonna Wolfe Theo Hill Mildred DiPippa and brother Charles Thomas; brothers-in-law Stanley Wolfe Chester Hill and Sam DiPippa. She is survived by sons Thomas A.(Anne) Tormey of Chagrin Falls Ohio and James Nicholas of Akron Ohio; nieces Donna Wolfe Gordon Margaret Ann DiPippa Talany; grandnieces Tracey Gordon Reading Courtney Gordon Wissinger Paige Bullard Gordon Jennifer Ann Talany Valerie Gona Gloria Gona Mihallis Erin Gona Pruni; nephews Gerald Paul Gona Robert Hill; grandnephews Bryan Talany Michael Jeffrey Gona; and Gerald Gona's wife Mary Ann. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday April 14 2009 1:00 PM at St. Sebastian Catholic Church 476 Mull Ave. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
