Mitchell I Thomas (Mitch) passed away peacefully on August 17, 2021.
Born on March 19, 1962, he shared his birthday with his grandfather and namesake.
He was a proud alum of St. V-M where he excelled in football and basketball. A knee injury in an All-star game sidelined his college football career but went on to attend Youngstown State University.
He studied botany and after stints at golf course maintenance he worked for the Akron School Board. He went on to establish with Laura a successful landscaping company.
Mitch loved golf, poker nights and buffets. He was a loyal friend to many, trustworthy and charitable and always willing to lend a helping hand. He was quite the Civil War historian.
Preceded in death by parents, Gene and Elaine and brother Mark, he is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Laura Thomas (Nee Winemiller); brothers Michael (Brenda), Jim (Martha); mother-in-law Judy Winemiller; sister and brother-in-law Kathy and John Haren; brother-in-law Dan (Bubba) Winemiller and many nieces and nephews; Aunt Rose and Uncle Mike Thomas. Also his lifelong friend Jeff Spangler and his second mother Mrs. Ott. He also leaves behind his beloved, faithful Shepherd Edsel Ford.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. from 4-6 pm. Please come in your casual attire in honor of Mitch.
In lieu of flowers donations can be mad to Ronald McDonald House or the charity of your choice.
