Milton Cox

Milt Cox ('Putter') passed away January 25 2013 at the age of 87. Born in Junior West Virginia on February 13 1925 to William Frederick Cox and Amy Valentine Cox Milt lived most of his life in the Akron area. He was a 1942 graduate of Copley High School and served in The United States Navy during World War II. Following his military service he attended The University of Akron where he was a member of The Lone Star Fraternity. He graduated in 1950. Milt retired in 1987 after a 40-year career which spanned the evolving Goodyear organization: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Goodyear Aerospace International Loral and Lockheed Martin. He was Goodyear's site manager for the BMEWS (Ballistic Missile Early Warning System) in Mooristown New Jersey; Thule Greenland and Fylingsdale Yorkshire England. Preceded in death by his mother and father eleven siblings and his son Steven Milt is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years Mary Helen (McSweeney). His legacy lives on through his beloved family: daughter Elaine (Cox) Mesek and husband Michael of Akron; son Michael and wife Chris of Juno Beach Florida; daughter Carolyn (Cox) Arvay and husband Michael of Norton; and son Jeffrey and wife Amy of Pace Florida. He also leaves behind to honor his memory his adoring grandchildren: Rachel Mesek Andrea Yanicky Meighen Montagnese Erin Frazee Jennifer Dawkins Cayman Arvay Grayson Cox and Griffin Cox and great-grandchildren: Tyler and Ellie Yanicky. Husband father grandfather great grandfather uncle friend and mentor Putter will live on forever in our hearts. His love strength compassion and courage knew no bounds. Calling hours will be at Hummel Funeral Home COPLEY 3475 Copley Rd on Wednesday January 30 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. Mass of The Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 31 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Hilary Catholic Church Fairlawn. Private interment service at Rose Hill Cemetery will follow. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at Visiting Nurse Service Hospice Inpatient Care Center and sends special thanks to his devoted caregiver Amanda McKinnie who helped the family with his care over the past several years.
