Mildred (Millie) Zateslo, a lifelong resident of Akron, died at Akron General Medical Center on January 3 at the age of 99. She had lived at the Village of St. Edward Nursing Care in Fairlawn for the past five years. Mildred graduated from Buchtel High School and then began a secretarial and administrative career with the United Rubber Workers Local 5 (B.F. Goodrich). She worked for Local 5 for over forty years, until her retirement in the 1970s. Affectionately known as 'Mimi' by her family, she was a favorite of her nieces and nephews and their friends. She often spent weekends with one of her six siblings and their families and was very involved in the activities of her nieces and nephews as they were growing up. After her retirement, she frequently helped family members when one of them was ill or in the hospital. This selfless giving of her time was deeply appreciated by her family. Mildred loved reading, watching movies, and playing cards, and was an enthusiastic fan of the Cleveland Indians throughout her life. Gifted with a wonderful sense of humor, she could find something to make us laugh even during difficult times. Survivors include nieces Joan Monte, Marilyn Anderson, and Susan Dettling, all of Akron; and Pamela Mingle, Lakewood, CO; Tom Zateslo, Chicago, IL; Janis Stubbs, Media, PA; Karen Gray, Chicago, IL; and many great nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Fairlawn. We encourage donations to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) in memory of Mildred.
